The National Chinchilla Society was originally founded in the 1950’s, as the Chinchilla Fur Breeders Association (CFBA). At this time chinchillas were being imported into the UK from the US with a view to setting up a chinchilla industry, and the CFBA was founded to allow breeders of chinchillas to compare their animals, to learn improved husbandry practices, and to compete with other breeders to produce the best furred animals.
In the early 1990’s the CFBA was re-branded as the National Chinchilla Society (NCS), which better reflected the hobby of breeding and exhibiting chinchillas. The focus of the NCS is still to breed quality chinchillas with the most beautiful fur qualities.
The aims of the Society have remained the same throughout its long history. These are to encourage and promote the keeping, breeding and showing of QUALITY CHINCHILLAS, whilst at all times maintaining good husbandry practices.
The NCS holds regular shows in the colder weather from September through to April. All NCS members are eligible to enter their chinchillas into the shows, which are held up and down the UK.
The NCS is managed by it’s National Committee, which manage the Society on behalf of it’s members, principally doing the following activities;
