The Brown Velvet is a combination of two Dominant mutations, the Gunning Black Velvet and Tower Beige. The colour of this chinchilla strongly resembles that of the Beige, albeit where the Black Velvet veiling is showing, there is a much deeper, darker brown colouration to the fur. The Brown Velvet carries the ear, eye and tail hair colour of the Beige, and should be a lovely blue-Brown colour.
Genetics of the Brown Velvet
The Brown Velvet is a simple mutation to breed, and can be produced in a number of differing ways. The following matings would yield these results;
| Mating | Progeny |

Breeding Brown Velvets
The Brown Velvet mutation has been around on UK show tables for a long time, and is an established mutation of good quality, provided that it has been bred using the best Black Velvets and Beiges, or by using the very best Standards with the Brown Velvet. The Brown Velvet is judged in it's own class. There should always be a blue hue present, which adds to this mutation's attractiveness.
